How to Grow a Online Business with Email Marketing

Are you looking to Grow a Online Business with Email Marketing? Today I’m going to guide you through a proven framework I use for my clients so that you can maximize your email marketing efforts, even if you don’t know where to start, even if you have a small list, whether you sell a product or service and regardless of an inflationary economy where people are spending less.

When done right, email marketing is one of the most powerful strategies to grow your business consistently and predictably over time.

It’s mind-boggling to me when business owners aren’t using this incredible, low-cost tool to generate more sales. Personally, If I had to choose just one kind of marketing, it would be email. Hands down.

Doing emails is hard.

It’s not surprising why many ignore doing emails, here’s why they struggle:

  • Not knowing what to say or how to say it
  • Not enough time or resources
  • Not knowing when to send
  • Feeling overwhelmed
  • Not being tech savvy
  • Lack of consistency

But here’s the thing: with some planning, the right send times, and the right messages, these challenges can be overcome.

Think of your email list as your networking circle. Anyone who has joined your list has at one point expressed interest in continuing the conversation with you…in the best location possible, their inbox.

Why? Because stats indicate that people check their inbox up to 20 times a day.

Imagine if you’re the one showing up in their inbox at least once a week or more instead of your competitors?

Here’s how consistent email marketing can transform your business:

  • Building Authority: Regular, valuable content positions you as an expert in your field.
  • Credibility: Each email reinforces that you are trustworthy and reliable.
  • Familiarity: The more your subscribers see your name, the more familiar you become, leading to stronger relationships.

The more you can show up in their inbox with the right message, the higher the chances of converting them from a subscriber to a customer. You’re building authority and credibility, showing that you can help solve their problems.

Email has a Long Shelf Life vs Social Media

The beauty of email marketing is that even if your subscribers aren’t ready to buy today, they may be ready in a few weeks. And if you’ve been consistently present in their inbox, who do you think they’ll go with when it’s time to make a purchase? You.

Now that I’ve hopefully convince you to take email marketing more seriously, here’s how to bring it all together.

The Framework to Grow a Online Business with Email Marketing

Step 1: Strategize and Use a Calendar
Create a long-term plan and goals for your email marketing efforts.

Set the goal for the cadence (frequency) for example: Send 1 email per week.  Another goal might be how you will build a quality list for example: Add 500 subscribers by the end of X Month.

Another specific goal for sales might be to grow X% by the end of the year. Remember, the goal must be specific and must have a deadline. Plug that deadline into your calendar.

Step 2: Ideate, Research
Emails is all about the message and content. Pick a day during the week to plan out your email campaigns to meet those goals.

Then begin to ideate and research what those campaigns will look like each month, consider promotions, nurture emails, Update emails, Informational emails, educational emails, seasonal emails. Plug the email campaigns in each month, based on the frequency (cadence) you selected.

For example,

week 1: seasonal email

week 2: informational email

week 3: promotional email

week 4: event email

Step 3: Write, Design and Schedule
With your goals, calendar in place, it’s time to write and schedule the emails. Remember each emails message, content and CTA (Call To Action) must nudge your reader to the next step.

The framework I use for the messaging Answers 3 questions and they work whether you sell a product or service:

What’s New? (What new message or information are you conveying to your reader?)

So What? (Answer the question in your readers mind, Why does this matter to me?)

Why Now?

This is your CTA, what does your reader need to do now? Buy Now, Join Now, Start Now?

Pick a day each week to create the copy, and content for the email. Once the content is ready, prepare the email and schedule it out.

There you have it, the framework I use to grow sales by up to or more than 40% consistently. If you can do this consistently for one year, imagine where your business will be?
